About Me

“Shane is my pinch hitter. I’m behind, in need of serious expert help, and with one phone call — He’s up to bat! And, CRACK! He knocks it out of the park.”Raelin Musuraca, Customer Experience (CX) Designer, American Eagle Outfitters

My History and Experience

My name is Shane Close and I am an experienced UI/UX  designer and interactive media consultant with over 17 years of success in creating and delivering smart, functional and engaging designs for clients such as Mellon Financial Corporation, PNC Bank Corporation, Bank of America, Synaptics, Inc. and State Farm. I can create well defined wireframes based on business requirements and then produce something usable and beautiful. A list of my skills include:

  • UI/UX Design and Process Flow
  • Concept and Wireframe Prototyping
  • Heuristic Site Evaluations
  • Graphic Design and Brand Collateral
  • HTML/CSS Code
  • Video Production and Editing
  • Motion Graphics and Animation

Highly skilled using: Illustrator • Photoshop • Premiere • After Effects • InDesign • Flash • Dreamweaver • 3DS Max • Balsalmiq • HTML5 • CSS3 • Bootstrap 3 • Actionscript 2.0

I have wore many creative hats at several start-ups during the dot com heyday. I then finely-tuned my experience at larger financial corporations where I was able to work with larger, more diverse teams on larger and more challenging projects. It is there were I began my UX training, where I learned how to connect with the end user on deeper, more meaningful levels. As a successful freelance consultant over the last decade, I expanded my experience to include business management, client relations and a self-starter attitude. My career has allowed me to:

  • Work with small, large and diverse teams
  • Work on small and large applications, websites and interactive projects
  • Manage small teams of designers and individual sub-contractors
  • Become  self-motivated and task oriented
  • Expanded UX skills from training and hands-on experience
  • Take projects from concept to ship

User and Client Focused

All functional design should support business and brand, but it must never lose sight of the goal, which is to connect with the user. Too often, design is focused on designer ego rather than business sense and pragmatism. While I am certainly fueled by creativity, the marriage between the user and brand must be at the heart of every creative commercial endeavor.
